Burns Selected For Blacksmith Road Superstructure Replacement Project
Burns was recently selected by PennDOT District 5-0 to provide structural design, highway design, environmental studies and public involvement for the replacement of Berks County Bridge #34A (Fisher’s Bridge), carrying Blacksmith Road over Manatawny Creek in Amity Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
Rebuilt in 1958, the existing bridge is a two span prestressed adjacent box beam structure founded on reinforced concrete abutments and piers. Burns has been tasked with designing a new superstructure replacement. The proposed structure will consist of a two span prestressed spread box beam structure. Details will be developed to reconstruct the abutment and pier caps to accommodate the new superstructure.
This project is being completed through PennDOT’s new Local Bridge Bundling program as a part of Act 89. The benefits of bundling local bridge projects include rapid project delivery and decreased costs. Burns is pleased to be working on the design for this superstructure replacement project. Once replaced, the new bridge will accommodate greater loads and increase safety.
