2015 SFPE North America Conference & Expo: Freedom To Design
Kenneth Magsam, P.E. will present “Fire Standpipes for Bridges” at the 2015 Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) “Freedom to Design” Conference & Expo at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia on Tuesday, November 10 at 11:15am. Highlights will include key considerations and engineering elements for the design of fire standpipes for bridges based on minimum code requirements, as well as some lessons learned from real-world experiences.
A Chief Mechanical Engineer at Burns, Ken has designed manual dry and semi-automatic fire standpipe systems for the Goethals and George Washington Bridges, as well as performed peer review services for systems at the Bayonne and the Outerbridge. Ken implemented a comprehensive construction phasing plan that ensured a successful project outcome and maintained system operations during construction. Each of these bridges is critical to the economic and day to day function of both New York and New Jersey.
With 3 decades serving the industry, Ken’s project insight empowers the engineers and designers under his leadership to deliver on our client’s needs. Ken is a member of the Philadelphia-Delaware County Society of Fire Protection Engineers as well as a member of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
