Burns Awarded Contracts for New Solar Photovoltaic Systems at Three Military Bases

Burns Engineering was selected as the Engineer of Record for three Design / Build contracts to develop solar photovoltaic power generating systems at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (San Diego, CA), Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach (CA), and Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Center (Twentynine Palms, CA).

As a subconsultant to Stronghold Engineering, Inc., Burns is also responsible for the design of the utility interconnections with the photovoltaic arrays supported on the vehicle canopy structures.

Initiated by the need to reduce electrical consumption throughout the state of California, the NAVFAC was given an ARRA grant to install solar generators to lessen the Military’s dependency on the civilian electrical grid. In implementing this project, demand will be reduced and power will be put back in to the local utility grid, creating utility cost reductions for the military.
