Burns Awarded Five Year Contract for Oversight Services
On August 12, 2009, Burns Engineering, Inc. was awarded a five-year, $13.7 million contract with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration (FTA), for Project Management Oversight Consultant Services (PMOC). Under this contract, Burns is tasked to provide engineering and construction oversight for federally funded major capital transit project throughout the United States. The contract is structured to initially provide up to 60,000 hours of services, but can be expanded at the Government’s option for up to 300,000 hours ($70 million).
Under this agreement, Burns will provide technical oversight on a task order basis, and will be awarded assignments primarily to oversee New Starts projects. These types of projects typically have a construction value in excess of $1 billion. In addition to detailed monthly monitoring and reporting, Burns provides specialized technical services such as Risk Assessments, where analysis of the scope, cost, quality, and schedule are used to help avoid cost overruns and delays.
Burns currently provides the FTA with PMOC services under an existing contract for transit projects in Chicago, IL, Portland, OR, and Phoenix, AZ, and has recently completed projects such as the Seattle Sound Transit U-Link Tunnel, and the New Jersey Transit Access to the Region’s Core Tunnel.
Burns provides a wide range of services to transit clients throughout the country, and develops highly customized and responsive solutions in the following areas: rail and bus facilities; passenger facilities; rail traction power and overhead catenary systems; track; communications; and project management oversight.
