Burns Awarded FTA Project Management Oversight Task for Transit Agencies in Chicago

Burns Engineering has been assigned by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to provide project management oversight for transit agencies in Chicago, including the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), METRA Commuter Railroad, and City of Chicago DOT.

In this role, Burns will provide management oversight over the next 5 years for a portfolio of projects with a budget of over $2 billion. These projects will include a full spectrum of transit initiatives, including facilities, infrastructure, track, communications, signals and traction power, as well as New Starts Project and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) projects.

Specifically, Burns will provide management oversight of these major capital programs to determine whether they are on time, within budget, in conformance with the design criteria, constructed to approved plans and specifications, and efficiently and effectively implemented. Critical projects include METRA’s expansion of the Union Pacific West Line, the North Central Services expansion, and the Union Pacific North West Line capacity improvements.
