Burns is Leading the Engineering Effort for International Arrivals Building (IAB) at Washington Dulles International Airport
Burns is providing engineering services for the $120 million expansion of the International Arrivals Building (IAB) at Washington Dulles International Airport. The project will add over 215,000 SF to the existing building creating a larger Arrivals Hall, expanded baggage basement with increased baggage claim capacity, additional INS booths, and a new mobile lounge dock.
Construction is expected to begin in 2009, and will be done in several phases to minimize any adverse impacts on existing operations. Extensive coordination with multiple design teams will be required to accommodate not only the ongoing construction projects adjacent to the IAB, but the completion of various design packages as well.
The IAB expansion is expected to be completed by 2011 and will enable the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority to meet the anticipated flight demands of up to 2,400 peak hour passengers through approximately 2018.
