Burns to Present at 2009 APTA/TRB Joint Light Rail Conference
On Monday April 20th from 10:30am to 12pm, Brian Ehrler, CPE, LEED AP, will present at the APTA/TRB Joint Light Rail Conference in Los Angeles, CA.
Brian will present his paper “Reuse or Renew: The Hampton Roads Transit Bridge Case Study”, where he will discuss the reuse of existing infrastructure (a heavy rail bridge structure) acquired from the purchase of a railroad right-of-way on the recent Hampton Roads Transit Project in Norfolk, VA. Brian will explore the decision-making process, and the factors that eventually led to a decision to remove and replace, rather than reuse the structure. The pros and cons of the decision to reuse, including potential cost savings, regulatory issues, political factors, and design considerations will also be discussed.
