Burns to Present at the 2010 APTA Rail Conference in Vancouver
Please join us June 6-9, 2010, when Steve Bezner, PE, and Rob Troup, EngTech, present at the 2010 APTA Rail Conference.
On Monday, June 7th, from 2:30-4:30pm, Steve Bezner, PE, will present “Everything You Wanted to Know but Were Afraid to Ask about Energy Storage”. With today’s increasing focus on the environment, one of the transit industry’s goals is to save energy. Using energy storage technology is one way to advance this idea. Steve will explore the myths and realities behind several different technologies for energy storage, including their cost and function, operational histories, and successes and failures. He will also explore the various systems available, and will present an overview of where they could be most effective. Steve is Chief Electrification Engineer in Burns’ Systems Design Group.
On Tuesday, June 8th, at 3:00pm, Rob Troup, EngTech, will present “Operating Doctrine for Shared Use”. As part of the FTA research on Safe Transit in Shared Use, Rob Troup will present on the operating doctrine and use of technology to provide greater opportunities for track utilization on shared use (LRV and FRA regulated trains) right-of-way. The topics he will discuss were generated under the FTA Project No. NJ-26-7025, and will include the methods to allow operators the ability to maximize usage windows for both LRV and freight operations. The concept of the research focuses not just on LRV, but also on presenting the business case to the freight carriers to allow efficient utilization of their resources. Rob is a Senior Signals Project Manager for Burns’ Transit Systems Design Group.
