FTA Project Management Oversight (PMO), Phoenix Valley Metro Rail, Central Valley/East Phoenix Light Rail Project
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recently awarded Burns a contract for Project Management Oversight services for Valley Metro Rail’s (VMR) $1.41 billion program to design and construct Phoenix’s first light rail system.
This 20-mile system will connect the cities of Phoenix, Mesa, and Tempe, and is the largest transit project in the Southwest. In the planning process for over a decade, the new line will aid in the rapid evolution of the transportation infrastructure in the Phoenix area.
Burns staff will provide oversight services to the FTA and VMR to track progress, to perform budget and schedule risk assessments, and to assist VMR staff in meeting regulatory requirements while completing the project on schedule and within the established budget. The rail system is expected to begin revenue service in December 2008.
