New Orleans Regional Transit Authority Selects Burns to Help with Katrina Recovery
During Hurricane Katrina, the electrification infrastructure of the St. Charles Streetcar Line suffered heavy damages. Burns is providing electrification design and construction support services to the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) in New Orleans to rehabilitate and upgrade the streetcar line’s traction electrification system. Electric traction on the St. Charles Streetcar Line began in 1893 and has been the world’s oldest continuously operated electric streetcar line.
