PGW Utilizing Microturbine To Save Energy

Burns assisted PGW, the largest municipally-owned gas utility in the country, with the design of an energy-efficient 200 kW microturbine system. Both a microturbine powered by natural gas as well as a 40-ton absorption chiller were installed at PGW’s corporate headquarters. The microturbine is a new, energy-efficient technology that uses a small gas turbine to generate both electricity and hot water. PGW received partial funding through Pennsylvania’s Green Energy Works! grant program. This program will help reduce PGW’s carbon footprint, as well as educate customers on ways that they can save by using natural gas.
