Washington Dulles International Airport, D2 Automated People Mover
Burns is involved in designing the new Automated People Mover at Dulles International Airport, specifically, the developing of guidance components and the electrification system for the automated train system. The train will connect the Main Terminal along with the International Arrivals Building and the two other terminals. This new system will replace the current mobile lounge system that is used to transport passengers between the Main Terminal and the Midfield Concourses. It will operate on a dual-track underground tunnel system. Upon full completion of the system and at the maximum operational capacity, it will be able to transport over 200,000 people per day. Burns is playing an active role in several other major projects at the airport, including the addition of two new runways, a new concourse and an International Arrivals Building.
