Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases -- Bio-Terrorism Laboratories

Burns Engineering has joined Hill International’s team on their five year contract with the National Institutes of Health for Construction Quality Management Services (CQM). Burns will provide structural, civil and security engineering expertise in support of the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases bioterrorism program.

This program provides funding to support the grant approval process, design, construction, testing and commissioning of all National Bio-Containment Laboratories (NBL), Regional Bio-Containment Laboratories (RBL) and Centers of Excellence currently underway at several major universities across the United States.

Laboratories commissioned under this program are state-of-the-art, first class facilities designed
for research on bio-terror, and the development of strategies to combat it. Thus far, Burns has conducted several design reviews, offering input on constructability, and verifying that designs are compliant with NIH Design Guidelines, industry standards, and local codes. Burns is pleased to play a role in this vital part of our national defense.
