Burns Completes Design For Bridge Over SEPTA Regional Rail
As part of a major investment in rail infrastructure, Burns helped SEPTA design the rehabilitation of Chestnut Hill West Line Bridge 0.35 over SEPTA’s busy four-track mainline in North Philadelphia. The long-deferred repairs to the 95-year-old, 130-foot long steel truss superstructure and masonry bridge seats posed engineering and operational challenges to overcome, including the need to minimize revenue service interruptions during construction. Burns ensured that SEPTA’s critical needs and goals for the project were met, optimizing the design to minimize service disruptions and reduce construction duration. Burns will also assist SEPTA during construction to ensure that the completed repairs will extend the bridge’s useful life for many decades.
