Burns Beginning Design Of New Air Traffic Control Tower At BWI
The Burns Group, as part of a team led by Parsons Brinckerhoff, was selected to design a new Air Traffic Control Tower at Baltimore Washington International (BWI) Airport. The design will aim for LEED Gold Certification, and will include a two-story administrative building component, as well as geothermal heating and cooling to maximize efficiency and help meet LEED goals. Power will be designed for maximum redundancy and reliability. Burns is leading the mechanical and electrical engineering efforts, including plumbing, airfield lighting controls, grounding and lightning protection, and fire alarm design, including emergency mass notification. The team also includes The Sheward Partnership, an architecture firm with extensive aviation and LEED expertise.
