The Manhattan Districts 1/2/5 Garage and Spring Street Salt Shed have received numerous accolades for innovative design, its marriage of beauty and technology, and the structures’ contribution to New York’s built environment. Burns is thrilled to have been part of the team that turned this ambitious design into reality, and helped The New York Department of Sanitation (DSNY) achieve LEED Gold certification for the environmentally sensitive garage. These new structures elevate the gritty character of their industrial operations, and blend naturally into their residential neighborhood.

The 1/2/5 Garage and Spring Street Salt Shed have been honored with the following awards:

  • Best New Building, Municipal Arts Society (MAS) Masterworks Awards
  • AIA NY Architecture Honor Award
  • Best of Facades, The Architects Newspaper
  • Art Commission Design Award, City of New York

Congratulations to DSNY, Dattner Architects, WXY Architecture + Urban Design, and the entire team on the success of this project.
