Andrei Edelman Joins Burns’ Communications & Signals Team

Burns is proud to welcome Andrei Edelman, PE, to the company as Chief Engineer – Communications & Signals. Andrei joins Burns’ Signals, Communications & Train Control group with over twenty years of rail industry experience in a variety of systems for light rail, heavy rail and subway lines. His specialized experience in traditional, profile, and Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) systems, wayside signaling, and carborne automatic train protection (ATP) and automatic train operation (ATO) allows our team to deliver enhanced expertise to our clients.

Andrei has been involved with a number of high-profile projects over the course of his career, including the ATCS/CBTC upgrade for the San Francisco Muni. This project included the entire tunnel section of the SF Muni between the West Portal and Embarcadero stations. Andrei’s leadership allowed for the safe separation of the Thales ATCS system from the old relay system, which was used for a backup for 20 years. His team’s solution enabled SF Muni to turn off and safely remove the old relay system without disruption to normal operations. Andrei was also the Technical Lead and Project Manager for the 3rd party audit of the positive train control (PTC) system in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

As Chief Engineer – Communications & Signals, Andrei will work with clients like the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) to develop customized train control solutions that help them meet their business goals, and make their rail systems safer for the traveling public.

Welcome, Andrei!
