Ryan Breier was named one of Progressive Railroading’s (PR) Rising Stars of 2020! This award recognizes individuals under the age of 40 who are making a positive impact on the rail industry.

This year, PR’s Rising Stars program received over 100 nominations from individuals who work for Class I, regionals, short lines, passenger railroads, transit agencies, government, academic institutions, engineering firms, contractors, and suppliers. The 25 winners were selected based on their contributions to the railroading industry as well as their career achievements, demonstrated leadership, professional association activity or community involvement. The program is aimed to discover and identify the industry’s up and comers and what contributions they make in the rail industry.

When asked about advice for a new railroader, Ryan said, “It is an exciting time in our industry in terms of the application of technology, with that being said, what is often difficult to understand is the guiding principles that served the railroad community throughout its history; Understanding these principles will help develop a strong foundation which allows for the application of new ideas.”

On July 30th, Ryan was honored along with the additional 24 award recipients by Progressive Railroading via their virtual celebration. Learn more about Ryan’s story in Progressive Railroading’s September issue.
