Burns Hosts Webinar, Mobile Positive Train Control Testing Lab Keeps Critical Deadline On-Track

A Federal mandate requires Positive Train Control (PTC) to be in place by the end of 2020. Burns is currently working with Amtrak to integrate PTC systems along the Northeast Corridor from Washington, DC to Boston. In April, the Burns team, led by Mike Ehrenberger, was faced with the challenge of continuing this progress while following social distancing guidelines brought on by COVID-19. The team went above and beyond normal expectations and created solutions to keep Amtrak on track for the upcoming deadline.
This past May, Mike hosted a webinar with Amtrak’s Assistant Vice President of Operations. Christopher Jagodzinski, titled “Maintaining Progress for PTC Testing in the Era of Social Distancing”, where they related their experience of this unprecedented project aspect and what it was like living and working on a train for two weeks. Their novel approach achieved two months of work in 10 days and included more scope and stakeholder agency coordination than was ever imaginable. This method is now a point of pride for Amtrak, as they will be replicating this method in other rail corridors around the US.
