Burns is undertaking a facility readiness analysis for one of the country’s most ambitious bus electrification efforts.

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is evaluating whether electric buses can replace diesel-powered and hybrid-electric buses at the end of their useful life.

Burns is supporting Sam Schwartz with the development

of SEPTA’s Zero Emission Bus Master Plan. The review involves assessing the impacts of potential fleet electrification options on transit operations, electrical capacity, and structure resiliency at ten maintenance depots. The analysis also considers how the logistics of potential electric bus routes would affect vehicle and charging technology selections.

The Zero Emission Bus Master Plan will be presented to SEPTA this summer.

The strategy builds upon previous Burns’ analysis of potential SEPTA facility upgrades to accommodate new charging infrastructure.
