Newark Liberty Airport Reopens Runway 4R-22L

Burns is performing design and construction administration for rehabilitated Runway 4R-22L at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The primary runway previously accommodated nearly half the airport’s flight activity. Now revamped and repaved, the runway features replaced lighting, new signage, and additional infrastructure enhancements that will improve the airfield’s durability and resiliency to extreme weather.

The runway-closure portion of the $84.2 million capital project completed five days ahead of schedule. Burns served as the prime electrical engineer, overseeing temporary and permanent lighting systems. Pre-purchasing materials successfully shortened the project schedule by several months.

Burns offers the largest group of dedicated airfield ground lighting and navigation systems experts in the country. Learn more about our airfield electrical and navigation system capabilities.
