Burns Kicks Off Mount Sinai Hospital Fire-Safety Evaluation
April 4, 2022

Burns is advising the Mount Sinai Health System on strategies to cost-effectively improve fire-protection systems for two hospital campuses.
To support Mount Sinai’s fire-safety master planning process, Burns is documenting fire-protection systems and performing a comprehensive equipment analysis. The evaluation will review:
- Current capacity of sprinkler-system components,
- Emergency power distribution necessary to support the hospital fire pump,
- Sprinkler system resiliency, and
- Overall compliance with federal, state and city requirements.
Focusing on Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West, Burns will guide the historic, top-ranked hospital campuses through the upgrades needed to meet or exceed new fire-protection guidelines set by Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS). By 2028, CMS requires automatic sprinkler systems across all the country’s high-rise hospitals.
