The Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (Sound Transit) is expanding their light rail system to connect the Seattle region with Tacoma, the second largest city in Washington state.

Supporting HDR, Burns will build upon our role for the Federal Way Link Extension. Engineering and design services include:

  • Traction power,
  • Overhead catenary system,
  • Signals and train control, and
  • Communications systems.

The four-station extension will add nearly ten miles of service and involve construction of a new operations and maintenance facility.

The Tacoma Dome Extension is part of Sound Transit’s overall plans of doubling the system size in the coming years, expanding public access to transit systems throughout the region through connections to Sound Transit, King County Metro, Pierce Transit, and Amtrak services.

The Tacoma Dome Extension is anticipated to complete construction by 2032.
