SEPTA Opens New Wawa Regional Rail Station

August 22, 2022

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) marked the culmination of a multi-year project this week with renewal of rail service in Middle Township, Delaware County.

More than 35 years after the former Wawa station closed, SEPTA relaunched service this week with all-new facilities and the opening of a 3.5-mile extension that connects riders to downtown Philadelphia.

Burns played a critical role throughout development of the Wawa Regional Rail station and related restoration of the Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line — SEPTA’s first service extension since 1985.

Supporting AECOM, Burns worked hand-in-hand with SEPTA throughout the project’s design and integration. Burns’ role included structural, mechanical, electrical, lighting, plumbing, fire protection, communications, and security designs, as well as construction-phase engineering and review services.
