University of Pennsylvania, Air Conditioning Improvements at Kings Court, English House, Gregory College and DuBois Residence Halls
Demand for air conditioning across University of Pennsylvania’s residential accommodations has increased as summer programming expands and as the number of hot summer days extends into the school year.
Serving as a subconsultant to CICADA Architecture, Burns performed feasibility studies, design and construction-administration services for the multi-year project. Engineering services included mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural disciplines.
The upgrades involved extension of campus chilled water services to serve King’s Court, English House, the DuBois College House, and the Gregory College House, consisting of the Class of 1925 and Van Pelt Manor buildings. The improvements required installation of new dual-temperature systems, including fan coil units, air handling units, heat exchangers, pumps, piping, and controls, along with supporting electrical, structural and architectural modifications.
