Amtrak, Signaling and Train Control, Communications, Traction Electrification, and Facilities Engineering Services
Applying deep and extensive knowledge of Amtrak regulations, systems and facilities, Burns has supported dozens of critical infrastructure projects across a diverse range of disciplines and geographies, supporting Amtrak in its mission to connect more than 500 destinations across the United States and Canada.
Burns’ railroad signals and communications group supports the design, implementation, testing and commissioning for Amtrak’s advanced train control systems. Burns was a pivotal partner with Amtrak in deployment of Positive Train Control (PTC) along the Hudson Line and Springfield Line. Collaboration with Amtrak has continued throughout the implementation of PTC interoperability across the Northeast Corridor.
Our portfolio of traction power services includes a full range of rail electrification design services. Improvements to Amtrak traction power supply and distribution systems have effectively minimized risks to project schedule, cost, and passenger experience.
For facilities large and small, Burns provides extensive assessment, design and oversight services. Our facilities and infrastructure group has helped Amtrak extend the life of their maintenance, storage, welfare and administrative facilities, while enhancing facility amenities to improve working conditions for Train and Engine and On-Board Service crew base operations.
Our facility design and construction oversight services continue to Amtrak’s intermodal terminals, stations, platforms, viaducts, bridges and tunnels. Project experience includes:
- Electric Traction,
- Signals and Communications,
- Fire and Life Safety,
- Commissioning and Testing, and
- Special-Systems Improvements.
