Burns Supports Dallas-Fort Worth Terminal Expansion with Advanced Technology and Security Systems

Burns is proud to serve on a multidisciplinary team led by HOK for the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) Central Terminal Area Expansion Program, a transformative $2 billion initiative enhancing one of the world’s busiest and most innovative airports.

The current expansion focuses on reimagining and upgrading 18 gates at Terminal C and the 3 associated parking garages to meet growing passenger demand with cutting-edge technology and seamless traveler experiences.

Our team is providing comprehensive technology, security, and fire alarm planning and design services for the Terminal C terminal and garage renovations. This includes engineering the infrastructure for:

• Parking Revenue Control and Parking Guidance Systems
• Electronic Visual Display and Public Address Systems
• Telecommunications including Wi-Fi Connectivity
• Distributed Antenna Systems
• Access Control, Emergency Call, and Video Surveillance Systems
• Fire Alarm Systems

As lead design engineers for these systems, our work ensures passengers benefit from a modern, intelligent airport experience.

The Parking Guidance System directs travelers with real-time information, from garage availability to individual space indicators, across approximately 400,000 SF of garage space at Terminal C. The system enhances efficiency by helping drivers quickly locate open spots across three major garages, reducing congestion and travel time.

Meanwhile, the Parking Revenue Control System integrates with DFW’s broader campus-wide system, using camera-based license plate recognition to streamline entry, exit, and payment processes—all through a centralized control point.
