Burns to Play Vital Role in Amtrak Bridge Replacement

October 31, 2025

Burns has been selected to provide Overhead Contact System (OCS) design services for the replacement of two Amtrak bridges in Rhode Island.

As part of a multi-firm team, we will support the safe removal and relocation of Amtrak’s overhead electrical infrastructure during demolition and reconstruction. These bridges span Amtrak’s electrified Northeast Corridor and impact multiple power and signal lines. To maintain service during construction, we will design new catenary support structures and reprofile the existing catenary system.

Our responsibilities include conducting a site survey with Amtrak-qualified personnel, developing a complete OCS design package with drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, and coordinating closely with Amtrak, RIDOT, and the MBTA throughout the project.

This project is critical to supporting safe and reliable service along the Northeast Corridor, and we’re proud to contribute our expertise to its successful delivery.
