Burns Leads Engineering and Integration of Monumental Digital Media Installation at George Bush Intercontinental Airport

Burns is proud to announce its leadership role in delivering one of the most high-profile and visually striking features of the Houston Airport System’s ongoing terminal modernization: the Oculus, a monumental digital media installation located within the new International Central Processor (ICP) at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).

As part of the IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program, the Oculus is a 2,000 SF cylindrical LED display that links the international departures and arrivals halls. Designed to be both a visual icon and cultural touchpoint, the feature will welcome millions of passengers annually.

Burns is serving as the prime consultant on the project, providing end-to-end design, engineering, and integration services. Our firm played a central role in developing the project’s technical approach, leading procurement strategy, and ensuring seamless coordination between structural, electrical, and digital systems. Burns also led the creation of three custom procurement packages to support the complex requirements of this unique multimedia system.

Creative content for the Oculus is being developed by Gentilhomme. Their large-scale generative media content will transform the cylindrical display into a dynamic “window into Houston,” showcasing the city’s cultural richness and regional identity. The multimedia content will run on a sophisticated content management system integrated directly into the airport’s digital infrastructure, also engineered and coordinated by Burns.

Burns’s involvement spans multiple scopes under its long-standing IT consulting and engineering services contract with Houston Airports, reinforcing the firm’s reputation as a trusted partner in the delivery of complex, high-impact infrastructure projects.
