With future electrification projects and the Trolley Modernization program on the horizon, improving SEPTA’s power and utility systems is imperative. To help fulfill current needs in Delaware County and beyond, Burns is leading a multi-disciplinary team to design SEPTA’s newest DC traction power substation in Darby, Pennsylvania. This substation will increase the power availability and resiliency on SEPTA’s T3 and T4 lines, replace the existing electrical utility services at the adjacent trolley loop and adjacent bus terminal, and include provisions for the future installation of electric bus chargers at the bus terminal.
Burns is collaborating with Pennoni, Sowinski Sullivan, and Envision on the project and will be responsible for the traction power, electrical, grounding, lightning protection, structural, mechanical, plumbing, communications, security, and SCADA designs.
