Burns to Support Important Technology Transitions at Hawaiian Airports

January 14, 2026

To improve passenger experience and maximize people resources, the Hawaii Department of Transportation has engaged Burns in a project that will launch Hawaii’s airports into an efficient, streamlined future while still honoring the Islands’ vibrant sense of place.

As prime engineer, the Burns team will design and implement state-of-the-art gate management, passenger information display systems, and public address systems at five airports (HNL, ITO, KOA, OGG and LIH) that collectively serve millions of passengers each year. These vital updates will make employees and passengers’ lives much easier, helping to ease language barriers and wayfinding issues as well as expedite the delivery of important travel and safety information.

These improvements will be deployed in phases over the next five years.
