Delivering Next-Generation Systems at the Pittsburgh International Airport

March 3, 2026

Burns played a key role in the Pittsburgh International Airport Terminal Modernization Program (PIT TMP)—a transformative project that will enhance passenger experience, improve operational efficiency, and reflect the unique character of the Pittsburgh region.

Completed in November 2025, the new 635,000 SF terminal houses airport operations, airline services, and all public areas, including ticketing, baggage claim, security checkpoints, and retail spaces—all designed to reduce wait times and streamline the travel experience.

The Burns team led the design and implementation of critical IT, Special Systems, Security, and Life Safety infrastructure across all project phases, from concept through construction administration.

Key highlights include:

  • A fully integrated Access Control System with over 500 controlled portals and new card readers, designed to work with the existing badging system.
  • New security infrastructure and communications rooms to support connectivity and system performance.

Burns specifically designed the following systems:

  • Video Information Display Systems
  • Common Use Systems
  • Wired & Wireless Networks
  • Cellular & Public Safety DAS
  • Life Safety (Fire Alarm)
  • Access Control & Surveillance
  • Public Address System
  • Systems Integration Lab Specification

Burns is proud to help bring this next-generation terminal to life and enhance efficiency, safety, and the traveler experience at Pittsburgh International Airport for years to come.
