DSNY Spring Street Salt Shed Wins Award of Merit in New York

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) Spring Street Salt Shed was awarded a 2016 Award of Merit – Public Works from the Concrete Industry Board of New York. The award, one of many given to this project for its unique marriage of beauty and technology, recognizes the structure’s elevation of the gritty character of its industrial operations, and its ability to blend naturally into its gentrified residential neighborhood.
The structure is made of faceted concrete in the shape of a salt crystal that rises nearly 70 feet along the Hudson River. It is designed to house 5,000 tons of salt delivered through a monumental 34-foot-high door.
Anthony LoCicero and Richard Hauswald attended an awards dinner for the 55th Annual Roger H. Corbetta Awards for Concrete Quality in New York City on November 9, 2016. These prestigious awards are sponsored by The Concrete Industry Board which serves as the New York City chapter of the American Concrete Institute. Several hundred people attended the dinner.
Burns is honored to have played a role in the success of this exciting project!
