MSY Completes New North Terminal, Burns Provides Technology and Security Systems Services

As the primary commercial airport in the State of Louisiana, the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) identified the need to better serve the traveling public, meet airport security requirements and comply with aviation best practices by replacing its 60-year old legacy facility with a new terminal. After breaking ground in 2016, MSY unveiled the new North Terminal in November 2019.
The new terminal consists of an airport terminal, three concourses, and two parking garages and is a state-of-the-art facility. The $1 billion North Terminal contains thirty-five gates with growth potential into the forties, electronic systems that facilitate the passenger experience, and brings a new gateway to the City of New Orleans for the millions of passengers that visit every year.
As part of the Crescent City Aviation Team, a joint venture of Atkins and Leo A Daly, Burns was the engineer of record for the technology and security systems for Concourse A and provided construction support services for the entire program, which consists of 972,000 sf of new terminal building. These special systems included a robust fiber infrastructure, electronic security systems, flight information and public address systems, along with modern passenger processing systems.
