JFK International Airport, KIAC Condition Assessment
The KIAC facility consists of two GE LM6000 units, a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and one steam turbine for a combined cycle arrangement. In 2020, the contract for the operations of the facility will be up for renewal. As a part of the due diligence assessment to determine the lifespan of the facility, Burns is completing a detailed EPRI compliant lifecycle analysis.
Burns is presently investigating all of the mechanical piping, major equipment, environmental permits, and electrical engineering systems associated with KIAC. This includes the review of detailed testing logs, analysis of plant single line diagrams and P&IDs, and comparison of test results to manufacturer recommended values. Testing on the HRSG, generators, and other equipment is recommended to determine the useful life remaining.
At the conclusion of the analysis, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) will have a comprehensive idea of the potential for KIAC to be utilized, and the approximate cost required to keep the facility operating near its original design restraints. Burns is presently reviewing all available documents to help PANYNJ determine the viability of additional turbines, or of the approximate capital replacement of the equipment.< Back to Projects
