LED Airfield Lighting Operation and Maintenance Manual for TRB

Burns performed research and prepared a best practices manual for the operation and maintenance of LED airfield lighting systems for airports nationwide as part of the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP).

The Airfield Lighting System Operation and Maintenance Report, published in January 2016, provides guidance for operating and maintaining LED airfield ground lighting systems in order to get the best return on investment, including taxi guidance signs, elevated light fixtures, and in-pavement light fixtures. The report details Burns’ research findings, and explains how external factors like bolt torque, vibration, moisture, and circuit configuration among others, affect LED airfield fixtures.
