Nashville International Airport (BNA), Communications, Technology and Security Design Consultant Services

Burns is proud to have served the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) in a number of specialized engineering capacities at Nashville International Airport (BNA) and John C. Tune Airport (JWN).

Burns provided IT, communications, security and special systems engineering for the “BNA Vision.” BNA Vision is a comprehensive plan designed to enable BNA to accommodate the region’s booming population growth and meet the needs of the airport’s record-breaking passenger increases through the development of their landside and airside facilities. As a part of the Corgan-led team, Burns engaged in the redevelopment of the international arrivals building, ticketing and baggage claim expansion, Concourses B and D expansion, Grand Ole Lobby construction, and a new parking garage.

New Emergency Operations Center (EOC)

In partnership with Gresham Smith and Partners, Burns designed technology and IT systems as well as mechanical and electrical systems, for a new Emergency Operations Center at BNA. The new EOC is designed to accommodate multiple airport departments and external agencies during airport incidents, with video, audio and telecommunication systems interconnected with the Airport Communications Center.

Passenger Loading Bridges and 400 Hz Aircraft Ground Power

As part of BNA’s effort to replace all passenger boarding bridges in Terminals A, B and C, Burns recently completed a project to provide ground power (both 400Hz and 28VDC) at every gate.  Burns’ effort included an assessment of the need for additional central 400Hz capacity in Terminal C based on the future fleet mix, gate usage, and existing commercially viable 400Hz equipment. Additional capacity was added to the central system to support the increased power needs at each gate. Burns worked closely with the prime consultant, I.C. Thomasson, to optimize existing infrastructure to present the best overall value to MNAA.

Taxiway Airfield Lighting Improvements at JWN

Burns designed a new localizer shelter and antenna array and relocated a glide slope antenna and shelter as part of airfield lighting improvements at the airport. The design included DME and radio transmission equipment located at the localizer shelter.
