Burns Partners With Alstom And Penn State On New Microgrid Center Of Excellence
Burns is proud to be partnered with Alstom Grid and Penn State University as part of the recently launched Microgrid Center of Excellence at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Alstom, a leader in smart grid and innovative utility solutions, celebrated the opening of the global center of excellence for microgrids on June 2nd.
This center, the first of its kind, will help advance the development of microgrid technologies as part of The Navy Yard’s grid modernization and resiliency projects. Burns is implementing these and other distributed generation projects for The Navy Yard after having completed a comprehensive energy master plan in 2013 for the rapidly growing 1200-acre commercial and industrial campus.
The partners celebrated the opening of the global center of excellence for microgrids with a panel discussion that featured Andrew Ott, CEO-elect of PJM, Dan Ton, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary at U.S. Department of Energy and Dave Smith, Director of Energy Services for Burns. The panel discussion was followed by a press event outside the Center where notable participants included Neil Sharkey, Vice President of Research at Penn State and Michael Nutter, Mayor of Philadelphia.
