Burns Selected to Create Transformational Wayfinding and Technology Design for Long Beach Transit First Street Transit Gallery

April 9, 2026

Burns is proud to support Long Beach Transit (LBT) in reimagining the First Street Transit Gallery as a next-generation mobility hub, ready to meet the moment on the world stage as Long Beach prepares to be a host for the LA28 Olympics. Our work focuses on improving customer confidence, operational efficiency, and long-term maintainability, while creating a transit environment that reflects the civic pride of Long Beach. By elevating visibility, clarity, and reliability of passenger information, the project helps riders move through the system with greater ease and trust.

This is a fully integrated design effort, bringing together electrical infrastructure, structural coordination, telecommunications networks, and architectural enhancements to support a modern digital passenger experience. The upgrades are designed not just for today’s needs, but for long-term flexibility, ensuring the system can evolve with new services, technologies, and rider expectations while remaining resilient and maintainable for the agency.

Our approach builds on Burns’ experience delivering large-scale digital information and wayfinding systems at major transportation hubs such as Los Angeles International Airport, Hollywood Burbank Airport, and Orlando International Airport. By translating lessons learned from complex airport environments into the transit space, we’re helping Long Beach Transit create a hub that is intuitive, welcoming, and built to serve the city for years to come.

For LBT, Burns will combine this national experience with a multidisciplinary team based in Southern California, including in-house engineers, owner’s representatives, and public transit specialists. Burns is working with Linespace, our architectural partner, and Terravanta for cost estimating. Our solutions will integrate digital signage, real-time data systems, network and electrical infrastructure, lighting, and security into a cohesive platform. The result will streamline passenger navigation, reduce confusion, improve lighting and operational efficiency, and enhance customer experience.

Burns is committed to partnering with LBT to ensure the First Street Transit Gallery continues to serve as a safe, vibrant, and welcoming gateway for the community and its visitors.
