Burns Aviation Team Leads Update to Industry’s Premier Security Guidelines

June 11, 2021

The National Safe Skies Alliance (Safe Skies) released an update to the Recommended Security Guidelines for Airport Planning, Design, and Construction through its Program for Applied Research in Airport Security (PARAS).

Called upon for our deep expertise in aviation design principals, Burns security experts led the overhaul of this trusted guidance document.

The PARAS report can be applied to any Category X to General Aviation facility. Developed for airport security managers, engineering consultants, architectural firms and other airport construction leaders, regardless of familiarity with current security regulations, the report offers an all-encompassing review of the latest federal requirements.

WatchAirport Consultants Council (ACC) Webinar: Evolution of Airport Security Technology & Design Practices. A panel of industry experts discuss the latest PARAS security document and the role of the newly updated guidelines to system & design advances. Recorded on May 7, 2021.

Safe Skies, a non-profit organization that works in collaboration with airports, government and industry, turned to Burns for our half century of practical experience and unique insights in special systems design.

Burns engineering specialists served as the report’s lead authors and coordinated its review with the PARAS project panel of industry and government experts. Sections on threat, vulnerability and blast assessment best practices were authored by KPFF Consulting Engineers and Newcastle Consulting.

This sixth iteration of the guidelines also includes a version with referenced guidance materials embedded within the document. Both versions are available for download from the Safe Skies website.
