Burns is providing multi-disciplinary design services to support Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) expand maintenance facilities at one of the city’s main drinking water treatment plants.

Burns will manage design and oversee construction for a maintenance facility replacement project at the Belmont Water Treatment Plant, a facility serving 250,000 customers in West Philadelphia. Planned improvements will assist PWD with larger efforts to expand plant capacity and increase system-wide resiliency.

Working through a multi-year general engineering contract, Burns’ role includes:

  • Surveying equipment storage requirements, including for chemicals and other potentially hazardous materials
  • Structural designs of multiple storage facilities
  • Electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and security design services
  • Oversight of architectural, civil engineering and environmental designs

Renovations of the 120-year-old Belmont facility are part of the city’s 25-year Water Revitalization Plan, a series of system-wide drinking water infrastructure upgrades.

Burns has completed more than 70 PWD water treatment, wastewater treatment, and building improvement projects through task order and general engineering contract assignments over the past 25 years.
