Burns Supports Hawaii’s Airport Modernization Program

June 8, 2023

Burns is consulting Hawaii’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, supporting airport leaders to envision state-of-the-art security, technology, and passenger experience upgrades as part of future expansion and revitalization efforts.

An overhaul of the 1970s-era Terminal 2 is a major component of the $2.3-billion Hawaii Airports Modernization Program. The facility redesign will capture the “Aloha Spirit” and create a truly Hawaiian sense of place, all while improving efficiency and capacity for the main international hub within the state’s largest airport.

Supporting HDR, Burns is developing an assessment of technology and security system upgrades for the Terminal 2 ticket lobby renovation’s programming design phase. Burns is evaluating the full range of special systems to improve and enhance the passenger experience, including:

  • Access control systems
  • Video surveillance
  • Common use technology
  • FIDS and dynamic signage
  • Public address systems
  • Virtual queueing and passenger density monitoring
  • GPS beaconing

Burns specializes in the design, integration and convergence of leading-edge airport security and technology systems. Our engineering and consulting services protect the traveling public, while enhancing overall travel experiences.
