Burns has been contracted to provide mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering services to provide two new CHP units and a solar microgrid for the Pennsylvania Turnpike maintenance facility in Wampum, Pennsylvania.
The two 1.2 MW CHP units will provide 2.4 MWs of power as well as heat for all of the buildings on site. The solar microgrid will produce 120 KW of power for the facility. The system can be operated independently from the grid to serve as backup power to operate independently from the grid.
The project is scheduled to be complete in early 2028.
