Burns to Ensure Safe Electrical Operations at the University of Pennsylvania

July 3, 2025

Burns is the prime engineer on a pivotal project for one of the anchor locations for many of the key programs at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. Built in 1972 to house Wharton’s prestigious graduate education program, Dinan Hall needs electrical systems updates that will be essential for ensuring safe operations in the building.

Burns will be charged with managing the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection engineering portions of the project. Holistically, the project will not only entail replacing the current switchgear but also waterproofing and retrofitting a new location for the gear in Dinan’s aged basement spaces.

The project will be phased, and work will be coordinated to occur at off-peak occupancy hours to minimize any impact to operations. This will be important, as the building provides many essential services for the school, from admissions visits to career development, in addition to its role as a teaching and research space.

Burns is pleased to be partnering with Zimmerman Architects, Pennoni Engineering, and Core Construction on this project. Work is expected to be complete in 2026.
