New Jersey Transit Receives Critical Funding for Hilton Garage Electrification Project

New Jersey Transit (NJT) reached a major milestone toward electrification of Hilton Bus Garage. The facility overhaul was included among cleaner bus system funding awards announced last month by the U.S. Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
The $47-million award from the Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities program will enable NJT to transition the garage to deploy battery electric buses across the Newark region.
“This important grant represents a significant milestone on NJ TRANSIT’s roadmap to achieving a 100 percent zero-emission bus fleet by 2040,” said NJT President and CEO Kevin Corbett.
NJT plans to convert five of the agency’s maintenance garages to zero-emission bus operations.
Burns is supporting AECOM to design and oversee construction of the Hilton Bus Garage’s fleet electrification systems, structural upgrades, and building system overhauls.
