Federal Transit Administration, Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO), METRORapid University Corridor Project

Burns serves as a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Project Management Oversight Contractor for the METRORapid University Corridor Project.

METRO is developing a 25-mile bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor to alleviate congestion across the Houston region’s busiest neighborhoods. The project is divided into five segments, establishing east-west and north-south connectivity. The new routes provide convenient access to four regional colleges and universities.

The $2.2-billion project’s proposed design includes:

  • Exclusive bus lanes with street-level boarding
  • 47 battery-electric, 60-foot buses
  • Transit signal priority
  • Off-board fare collection

METRO anticipates the project will reduce travel times, improve schedule reliability, provide more accessible transportation options, and reduce the environmental impact of bus operations.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025 with revenue service planned for 2031.
