Los Angeles World Airports, Los Angeles International Airport Automated People Mover Systems Engineering

Burns applied detailed understanding of Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) technical security and system integration requirements to support the design/build joint venture (LINXS DBJV) on a project to engineer and implement a variety of systems for the new Automated People Mover (APM) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The APM is Los Angeles World Airports’ first public-private partnership project. Burns is supporting LINXS in designing the video management system to implement as part of the APM system.

Once complete, the all-electric line will run for 2.25 miles and have six stations that connect the LAX Consolidated Rent-A-Car Facility, the Los Angeles Metro Rail system, and the LAX West Intermodal Transportation Facility to the airport’s central terminal area (CTA). The APM will be a game-changer in relieving traffic congestion within the CTA and reducing toxic emissions.

Burns’ role in the APM project included:

  • Designing a new video management system (approximately 1000 cameras) that will ultimately interface with the existing airport surveillance system.
  • Federation of two video management systems.
