Burns Supports Expansion of Des Moines International Airport

Burns will contribute industry-leading expertise in airport technology systems to support Des Moines International Airport’s New Terminal Expansion Project.
The large-scale transformation is slated to become one of the largest capital projects among the country’s small-hub airports. There are 12 existing gates, and Phase 1A will add six more.
The initial Phase 1A of the $411 million project will have a final build out of $770 million. The project will modernize the overall passenger experience, while streamlining the travel journey.
Burns will support HNTB with design of information technology and low-voltage technology systems. Burns’ design services will cover:
- Data/telecommunications infrastructure
- Airport systems
- Common use systems
- Security systems
- Radio systems
The project is expected to break ground in 2023.
Recent airport special systems projects include Orlando International Airport’s South Terminal C and Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A.
