Port Authority Transit Corporation’s Speedline Achieves Full ADA Compliance

June 5, 2024

The Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) recently completed accessibility improvements along the Port Authority Transit Corporation (PATCO) Speedline, achieving full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Through a combination of elevator installations, concourse extensions, ramp and stairway modifications, and fare gate improvements, the $32-million project significantly improves the passenger experience for individuals who have disabilities and who use wheelchairs, strollers or bicycles.

The project adds eight transit-grade elevators at six PATCO stations in South Jersey and Philadelphia:

  • Haddonfield
  • Collingswood
  • Westmont
  • Ashland
  • Camden City Hall
  • 12th/13th & Locust Street

Burns delivered structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection designs, supporting Sowinski Sullivan Architects. During the construction phase, DRPA contracted Burns for construction monitoring services.
