International Terminal A West at Philadelphia International Airport

In order to service the dramatic expansion of US Airways’ European flights to and from Philadelphia, the City of Philadelphia in conjunction with US Airways, developed a new $750 million, 800,000 square foot, 12-gate, world-class International Terminal.

Burns was the prime engineering firm responsible for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems for the building and related airside/landside site improvements. Engineering highlights included a new central heating and cooling plant, significant medium voltage electrical system upgrades, and development of unique MEP solutions for public circulation, food & beverage concessions, baggage handling areas, Federal Inspection Services areas, security checkpoints and the other diverse spaces found in an international terminal.
